Longton Exchange’s Unwanted Gift Shop

Christmas often brings joy, warmth, and the company of loved ones. However, it’s also a time when some of us receive gifts that, while well-intentioned, might not quite align with our tastes or needs.

We all have that one family member who faithfully presents us with the same type of gift year after year. But what if these unwanted gifts could find new purpose and bring cheer to others in our community?

Introducing ‘The Unwanted Gift Shop’.

The Longton management team have rallied together to address this very dilemma by introducing the innovative concept of the Unwanted Gift Shop.

In a time when many individuals face the challenges of the rising cost of living, this initiative aims to extend a helping hand while reducing waste.

What is ‘The Unwanted Gift Shop’?

The premise of the Unwanted Gift Shop is beautifully simple.

Our community is invited to donate any gifts they’ve received during the festive period that might not resonate with them. These items will then find a new home in a temporary pop-up shop, open to everyone.

The best part? They’ll be offered free of charge, allowing individuals to pick up something that might better suit their preferences, needs, or simply pique their interest.

When And What Can We Donate?

Whether it’s a book that’s been read before or a scarf in a colour that doesn’t quite match, your donations can be made from the 15th of January until the 12th of February. You’ll notice donation stations around the centre where you can donate. For larger items Kizzy B’s and The Centre Management Office will be welcoming your gifts.

How Much Will The Items Cost?

While the items are free, there’s an option to make a voluntary donation of £1, contributing to the designated charity of the year. This dual-purpose approach not only allows community members to benefit from the Unwanted Gift Shop but also channels support towards a noble cause, amplifying the spirit of generosity.

When Will The Shop Open?

Come February Half Term 2024 on the 12th of February in the former Shoe Zone store, the doors will swing open, welcoming all members of the Longton community. Your donated items will find eager takers, ensuring they’re cherished and utilised rather than relegated to the landfill.

Why Create ‘The Unwanted Gift Shop’?

The beauty of this initiative lies not just in its simplicity but in its efforts to support our Longton community. It’s a reminder that generosity can take many forms, from gifting to sharing, and that even small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect of positivity.

We’re excited to express our community’s solidarity and commitment to sustainability whilst embracing a symbol of compassion, resourcefulness, and community spirit. It’s an opportunity for the Longton community to come together, support each other, and pave the way for a more mindful and caring future.

Don’t Forget!

Mark your calendars for the 12th of February 2024 and come and visit us at the Unwanted Gift Shop at Longton Exchange Shopping Centre.
